Oil baths are excellent for nourishing and strengthening hair. But if you wear a piercing (especially in the ears), there's a risk you don't always think about: oil can facilitate unintentional unscrewing... and a piece of jewelry can end up falling out without you even noticing.

No long speeches here: we'll get straight to the point with a simple explanation and a before/after checklist to avoid this mishap.

In brief

Oil is naturally lubricating: on a screwed-in piece of jewelry, it can reduce adhesion.
The risk increases with friction (hair, towel, pillow, headphones).
The solution: a quick check (10 seconds) before and after your treatment.

Evaluation de notre boutique :

Why can an oil bath cause a piercing to fall out?

Oil can deposit on the jewelry and, when it's a screwed-in model, it can make the hold less "grippy." Specifically:

  • it can get into the screw thread and reduce adhesion,
  • it facilitates small unintentional movements (hair, pillow, hands, towel),
  • and the jewelry can gradually loosen... until it falls out.

Express Checklist: The Reflex That Prevents Most Losses

Before your oil bath

Check the screw tightness of your jewelry and tighten it if necessary (without forcing).
⚠️ If your piercing is still healing, do not remove the jewelry "just for the duration of the treatment": the hole can tighten quickly and reinsertion can be difficult afterwards.
✅ Apply the oil carefully, avoiding the piercing area as much as possible (especially around the ears).

After your oil bath

✅ Wipe the jewelry with a clean cloth (or compress) to remove excess oil.
Check the screw tightness again to ensure everything is securely in place.
✅ If you feel the jewelry is turning more easily than usual: wipe, gently clean if necessary, then gently re-tighten.

The small gesture that changes everything

We repeat it often, because it works: 10 seconds of checking after each oil bath. This simple reflex prevents the majority of "lost jewelry" cases related to hair care.

Have you lost a piece of jewelry?

Don't panic. The important thing, especially if the piercing is new, is to put an appropriate piece of jewelry back in quickly. We offer ASTM F-136 titanium piercing jewelry, designed for sensitive ears and comfortable wear.

FAQ

Does this concern all piercings?

The risk is especially common for piercings near hair (ears), but if oil comes into contact with a screwed-in piece of jewelry, gradual loosening remains possible.

Is oil "bad" for a piercing?

The main point here is not the oil on the skin, but the risk of losing the jewelry (and having to manipulate / try to put it back). With the right before/after reflex, you can enjoy your hair care without stress.

When is the risk highest?

Immediately after the treatment (hair still oily), during the night (pillow, friction), and during drying (towel). That's why the "before + after" check is so effective.

By following these tips, you can continue to take care of your hair... while keeping your piercings securely in place.
